Welcome to Overbook High School’s Department of English!
Overbrook High School English Department strives for excellence. Our classes are designed to promote student success and to prepare students to become life-long-learners, observant citizens and give an exposure of life experiences through literature. Our English classes aspire to be a concentrated study of literature and will include critical analysis of landmark texts in regards to their social-historical context. The reading and writings skills and strategies acquired in prior English courses will empower students to read, research, and analyze increasingly more challenging and demanding texts. As students read and explore more complex literary works, they will produce informational and persuasive responses to literature writing that are intellectually reflective. The students will be able to support those ideas with appropriate details, textual evidence, examples, and valid research. Students will be able to apply the themes and lessons from texts to situations and decisions they face as citizens.
